HEY! Thank you so much to every single one of you that tuned in, wrote on the message boards, hung out, shared the station. It really has been a special and hopefully big moment to see WOXY and all of their listeners come out and share such a special moment.
My dream for the past 5 1/2 years has been to see Inhailer Radio get the audience it deserves. I hope that lots of you and many more decide to stick around to see the next age of what Inhailer Radio can be :)
⚠️ FYI: The final recap email will be sent out a little later than usual, so don't be alarmed! It will include the entire countdown list in full. The archive of the broadcasting will also be available on our website soon, so stay tuned! Thanks for tuning IN to Inhailer Radio and please stick around for a special post-countdown set with Inhailer's own Ken Laube :)
Thanks to everyone who had a part of putting together the 97X Modern Rock 500. A great blast to go back to the party patio as I lived in Oxford in the early 90's and enjoyed the station and it's spin on modern rock/college music/alternative/new wave..and so on ; ). Good to hear many of the DJ's and remember chatting with a few as i would call up hopes of winning a Kroger gift certificate / Reds Tickets and items like a Cure catalog. Extra shout out to the PR person who gave a heads up to the Cincinnati Enq. as this is how I found out about it / have now been listening to your station. Hope to hear from the 97X DJ's again and more of those wonderful tunes. JFK
So, I know I asked this at various points in the MR500, but, do we have the list of the top ten bands as far as number of songs in the countdown? It was looking about halfway through that The Smiths would be hard to beat, but I was pulling for the B-52s. Now that I have seen most of the final days lists, I wonder if there are some surprises?
Thanks to all - the Inhailer.com team and everyone from 97X and WOXY - who worked so tirelessly to bring the MR500 back to life. I can't overstate how much it has meant to us 97X fans to hear our beloved DJs share their memories, replay throwback ads and segments, and "spin" the songs that defined the spirit 97X spirit. It was more than nostalgia. It was a family reunion. An affirmation. You gave us an experience we thought was lost forever. What a tremendous gift.
I am proud to be an Inhailer.com listener/supporter. Thank you!
From the moment it started Monday morning until the very end, I was nowhere near prepared for the impact this broadcast had. Some times were goosebumps, some were head banging, some singing out loud, but the most profound moments were where I was just blissfully unaware I was listening to a special broadcast, almost like it was just the regular old radio being itself. Talk about flashbacks. What I wouldn't give to have the old original freeform *gasp* WEBN or 90's WOXY back. Hell, I'd pay subscription again just to have pre-Sirius XM back. Radio ain't what it used to be.
So so true and as I said day one, it just boggles my mind that a REAL alternative radio station is not in Cincy. We are filled with corporate robot radio as is most of the country.
Thank you so much for these five days. To Inhailer. To the DJs. And to all of the rest of you who love them and this station as much as I do and made all of this so much fun, again. It's such a bittersweet reminder of the value of brilliantly curated music, something no algorithm can ever give us. I truly hope that this is not the last time we hear these voices - if not next year then some time down the road. But if it is, this has been a wonderful, unexpected gift that will not be forgotten by any of us. Predot
Thanks so much for your kind words. 97X listeners were -- and are -- the very best. Mike Taylor was the mastermind behind the reboot, and Dave Tellmann's son Jack did yeoman's work in assembling the songs, breaks, old commercials, promos, and liners.
I can't tell you how incredible it's been listening to the music all week and hearing all those familiar DJ voices - how I've missed all of it! The instant I stumbled onto 97X, spinning the radio dial to find decent music when I first moved to the Cincinnati area in 1983, I knew the station was something special. I tinkered with FM antennas, checked reception in any prospective apartment and house, subjected co-workers to 97X throughout the workday, inched forward at stoplights to improve reception in the car, and made new friends through our mutual love of modern rock. If 97X didn't change my life, it surely enhanced my life. Thank you. And thanks to Inhailer Radio for hosting this music marathon! You now have a new listener.
Thank you to all of the WOXY-97X alumni and Inhailer crew for making this happen! Listening to the music has been great. But hearing the voices, stories, ads, and drops has made it extra special. Many great memories!
I've missed most of today but can't wait to catch up this weekend. Thank you so much again for the wonderful trip down memory lane. This really came at the best possible time. Such a lift and a gift. 😀😘
It's so cool to know that someone who worked at WOXY was in the broadcasting camp at WSU! It was one of my co-workers in Media Services who ran that camp :-)
Thanks, Taylor and Inhailer gang for giving them the speakers for the past week and especially the WOXY/97X gang for showing me and every fan how awesome this music is and will be. Cheers dears!
I used to work at Squire Boone Caverns in Indiana as a tour guide. One time I took a tour with just a couple. We were chatting and they asked me if I knew the Violent Femmes. Turns out they were the parents of the drummer. Not the best claim to fame, but still cool! They were super nice.
Same here. I loved hearing the stories and feeling like it was something we all shared. But you can only say "hey remember that time..." so much before it runs its course. I'd love a curated Spotify list of modern music by some of the DJs if they'd be willing. I know many of them have their own avenues (still a DJ in a distant market, Twitch streams, etc. ) so maybe even just a rundown of those would be nice. I know I have trouble finding new music in the haystack that streaming has become.
Thank you SO much to all of the DJs from WOXY. You played the best music and got us through hook-ups, break-ups, make-ups, school, jobs, and so much more. You opened the door to this amazing world and welcomed us in. And thank you to Inhailer for bringing this anniversary present. I'm grateful to have found your station! 💘
I know Champagne Supernova was huge and by far the biggest hit for Oasis, to the point it can't be overstated how ubiquitous it was, it was on everywhere, you couldn't escape it, but I'd take half the songs on Definitely Maybe over it.
This album was a HUGE part of my teenage years and I have been known to break out "Suck My Kiss" or "The Power of Equality" on our DJ stream...but JFC this song.
The biggest memory and re-realization I am having from this week is how many incredibly talented, creative and just honest to God great people I had a chance to work with and learn from. OMG!
Not sure how Ric Tile was off on his lap numbers but maybe he recorded on an earlier version of the spreadsheet. I know there was one correction made after we got started along the way...
When this song came out my friend Ann and I laid on the floor of her apartment in downtown Dayton and wrote down every word to ITEOTWAWKI and then practiced singing it over and over and over.
Yes, I've always felt the final 100 were the laps I least looked forward to, because they were songs you heard places other than WOXY. Obviously, there's nothing you can really do about it. Songs like Burning Down the House belong near the front of any genuine countdown.
Good music is good music. If something 97X/woxy dot com played had commercial success later, thats just a good indicator that it was indeed The Future of Rock and Roll.
This isn't a perfect analogy but I feel like this week the Modern Rock 500 is Jules and I'm Brett, I've gotten very little work done because Jules keeps breaking my concentration.

Good work, everyone. You've made the MR 500 your own. What a yeoman's effort. Thanks, Inhailer.
The archive page is up and running! Enjoy.
Any success yet getting the MR500 archive working? It appears to be all loaded and ready to go, but it is still grayed out on the page. Thanks!

Thanks to everyone for all the work that went into this!
I hear you playing my boys to keep me hanging on!!
Thanks for such a great week! We listen to Inhailer in the car but I forget I can stream it. I'll be a better listener, cross my heart ❤️
Great 500! Loved listening in my car again. Thanks Inhailer! Thanks 97X!
Long live the Future of Rock 'n' Roll, 97X!
What a way to kickoff the weekend, huh??
To any WOXY DJ's, we'd love to have you join the Inhailer Airwaves 😈
Sorry y'all, going way over schedule since I had to talk for 5 minutes straight this morning to kick it all off 😅
Thank you so much for these five days. To Inhailer. To the DJs. And to all of the rest of you who love them and this station as much as I do and made all of this so much fun, again. Love you Bake! Class act!
The past 5 days have been amazing. Thanks to everyone involved for bringing the #2023ModernRock500 back to life for one more trip around the track
All Hail the Mighty Bam!
WOXY/97X was pretty much the only station that you TURNED Up the volume when the DJs spoke.
:( Me, having the realization that a lot of people, including myself wanna hear me talk again. Yeah, there really must a lot of pollen in the air.
I can't tell you how incredible it's been listening to the music all week and hearing all those familiar DJ voices - how I've missed all of it! Someone cutting onions in here with that sign-off from Babs. ❤️

Something's in my eye.

Gotta tell ya, thought Smiths would be #1
Okay, I think I'm gonna have to roll the top back and take a quiet cruise in the countryside after this.
It has been totally wonderful to hear all of the djs but whenever I hear Shiv's voice it feels like getting a big 97X hug.
A person won't die from chronic lump-in-throat-itis, right? 🥺

Raider Up!
Over 1300 of you music freaks out there listening . . . and that doesn't count those on HD.
Well, shirt. There's my heart broken. Gonna miss the podcast, Dave and Damian. But huuuuuge thank you for all you've done!
BAM! 💥 THERE GOES 1200!! I can't even get a current screen shot because it just keeps going up!
I think I am going to pour a single malt and quietly savor the last hour.
"Come for the music, stay for the legendary voices bringing it to you." 😭

Misheard lyrics #2: "I don't believe that anybody feels the way I do about meow-meow."
love will tear us apart my #1
Where's Weird Al" Yankovic - Bedrock Anthem? lol
shirt off striding down road. 65 year old body. hearing faint screams
As we cross the Top 20, here's another song that I really don't ever want to hear again in my goddamn life. In 2023, people still love this band!!!
THE MONTANA-BAHN
SOY UN PERDEDOR!!!
Slacker anthem!
The biggest memory and re-realization I am having from this week is how many incredibly talented, creative and just honest to God great people I had a chance to work with and learn from. OMG!
Counterpoint
The last appearances for each DJ kicking in 😭
OMG....hysterical. Four, you better not me down now!
It went from Rock Lobster to Rock the Casbah. I danced around the kitchen to the latter singing "Rock the Lobster". Because. It works. Try it!😎😂
Not sure how Ric Tile was off on his lap numbers but maybe he recorded on an earlier version of the spreadsheet. I know there was one correction made after we got started along the way...
We're doing lubes, Folks.
I've heard "Sweet Dreams" a thousand times and it never gets old and never sounds bad.
Every song is a banger, so that only means we are approaching the top 25 <3
Anyone catch the remix of Rock the Casbah from last year featuring Ranking Roger?
It was only this year that I learned that pretty much all the backing tracks of Rock the Casbah were recorded by Topper solo... very groovy
Athens Power Pack
Serious subject of debate in my family with 4 UVA grads.
When this song came out my friend Ann and I laid on the floor of her apartment in downtown Dayton and wrote down every word to ITEOTWAWKI and then practiced singing it over and over and over.
ITEOTWAWKI!!!!
It's the End of the World as We Know It (and I feel fine). My wedding song.
OMG it is ON with these songs!!!
It's only up from here! 🚀 On to 1200!!
My fave song of all-time! Am I dancing? Yes, yes I am.
Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance!!!!
More dancing in the streets 💃💃
And in the misheard song lyrics file: "Jeremy's smoking grass today."
great ad! humor still works after all these years
I'm getting that creepy feeling that the rest of the race will be songs I've heard a zillion times. but this one time that's okay
Trixi, are you dancing?
This isn't a perfect analogy but I feel like this week the Modern Rock 500 is Jules and I'm Brett, I've gotten very little work done because Jules keeps breaking my concentration.
this song makes me think of the cramps... another cover 'surfin bird'
A great story about the making of BLD - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_wLqPpzeT4&t=0s
Bathroom break for everyone before we get to the rest of the countdown!!! 🤣
Ooooooooooooooooooooooo Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
how much money did stipe give you guys?
Song 2
BLUR *pagining malhereux*
As a guy who just had a book published about his faith, I should probably hate this song. But Dear God is just too damn good.
socially provocative song from xtc. much love
That’s song number 3 from Siamese Dream
That is the first positive comment I've ever heard about the U2 itunes debacle
Unretired this one for the final 100
Dayton, OHIO clocking in with The Breeders!
