Ever since the MR500 was announced, Inhailer has been on the radar. I know I am spreading the word as much as I can. This station is special beyond the MR500, but I honestly wish I heard some commercials or mention of more sponsors so I knew you all had some revenue to keep rolling. I vote for every local brewery, restaurant, and bar in the region to sponsor ASAP!
Oof, The Screaming Trees Nearly Lost You, Would by Alice in Chains at the beginning of the day, the Beastie Boys...it's been dusty around here today...
I enjoyed hearing that story about Dolores because we had an instore with The Cranberries and she was HARD WORK. The guys in the band were all very amicable but sheesh, not our Dolores, may she rest in peace.
Unfortunately due to the way we had to air this, the songs won't appear under "Recently Played" like they normally would. But if you sign up for our mailing list, we've been sending out a daily recap of the songs played!
so many songs so many things in life I truly disliked at first but gave it another shot. nearly every category from music to food to art to people the discarded has become a beloved can't do without. my ability to discern is now totally f'd but I'm good with that. long story short don't ask me my opinion. it's tbd
Man, this PB&J brings me back. I used to have this SanDisk MP3 player (my first one!) that you could record FM radio on! I distinctly remember recording this song, as well as Dashboard by Modest Mouse
After my third clip shuffle went through the washer my budget was short another and got a very similar sansa. Lot of great functionality an apple couldn't pull off.
I know that feeling. I bought Skyrim on Xbox 360 THREE TIMES in 2011 because I insisted on having my Xbox vertical. It felt really bad to buy the same $60 game three times in a month on a high schoolers Outback Steakhouse budget
There are a few original 97X and woxy.com bumper stickers out in the world, the Cincinnati Mercantile Library has some new stickers they are selling (details in the latest “Rumblings From The Big Bush” Podcast), there are new t-shirts sold by Cincy Shirts, and sometimes you can find classic stuff online on eBay and other sites. There also appears to be some knock-offs out there. Caveat emptor.
That's why I was unable to guess that the Human League song would be the Billboard #1 to appear in the first hour of today's broadcast—because it was a hit before WOXY's modern rock format even existed, so I don't associate it with the station as indelibly as I do so many other songs.
I still remember the first time I heard Arcade Fire...totally blew me away. Hearing this song takes me back to living in Orlando but still having that connection to home via woxy.com and the boards.
There was a boarder that used to have the drops you could download. I'd love to throw those in my own playlist to make it feel as 97X as possible. Does anyone have those somewhere or is there a copyright concern?
I first started listing to 97.7 in early 1985 when I was working on getting the baby’s bedroom ready for my wife and I’s first child. I can’t remember if it was officially 97X yet or if it was still WOXR then (Was a progressive / alternative station in the early 70’s “97.7 Magic Radio” before going to run of the mill music when disco became a thing). The music on 97X was the greatest thing on radio by a long shot, nothing else came anywhere close! The great early bands played like the Cure, XTC, REM, Joy Division, Midnight Oil etc still play an important part in my life. I have fond memories of the, tee shirts, cd’s and concert tickets I was lucky enough to win by being the “correct caller”. On a strange note, I still have cassettes from many years of taping the 97X Best Of as well some parts of Modern Rock 500”s (still listen to once in a while). Couldn’t afford to buy much music in those days w/ young kids so they filled the gap and were the sound tracks of a lot of road trips.
There was an Australian group that received some air play in the early days called “Mental as Anything” and they had a song OXY played called “Darling if you leave me, can I go too?” That’s kind of how I felt about the departure of 97X. Sorry about running on so long but the station was a very big part of my life!
Thanks so much for reviving the 500 this year! Hopefully In.Hailer could make this a yearly feature!
I realize in the context of a countdown this comment is ridiculous, but I'm enjoying today's blend over yesterdays, maybe it's less mainstream tracks that were available on other stations, or tracks more unique to 97x.
Aaron Borns, a class act all the way. He "graduated" from 97X and went on to a lengthy career at RCA Records in marketing. Now he's the VP of Marketing for Sporting Kansas City.
Very close on the GBV comment. New album out July 21.https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/guided-by-voices-new-album-welshpool-frillies-seedling-1234740381/
This has been a great string of dance tunes. Happy it's my work from home day today, though my coworkers probably wouldn't care if they noticed me dancing.
I grew up in Milford, and in the late 90's/early 00's commuted to UC. To really make this the full 97X experience we need some terrible country music randomly overriding the signal.I emailed the station to ask if there was anything that can be done (there was not), hoping for a contact the FCC type reply. The reply from Steve Baker on 1/24/2000 in part predicted the future - "Hopefully sometime soon, technology will advance to the point where you'll be able to listen to internet radio feeds in your car...How cool would that be??"
I left Cincinnati 2002/2003 before that happened, but no doubt would have been all over it had I still lived there. I've found plenty of sources for *some* of the kinds of music 97X played, but none that really cover the mix. It's great listening to this countdown and being reminded of just how great and influential to my tastes the station was - as well as hearing stuff I forgot existing.I was pretty lucky to be able to listen back in the day. My parents house was in a valley, we had a big hill to the southwest blocking the other 97.7 from Georgetown. We also had a big, directional roof antenna with amplifier leftover from before they could get cable. My workaround for listening in the car was recording songs and shows I really liked (especially 97Xtrabeats) - I still have those tapes, somewhere.
wow! there’s a storyline/dance here about the variety of lengths that we puny humans go through to find love. in this case the love of a radio signal that is weak as all get out. as if we're the professor on gilligan's island or something
take me back to the the 90's this makes my heart so happy.
"No Rain" is one I kept bumping lower and lower off the internet-era 500 until it was gone in 2009. But it has lived to see another day (er, year).

Wow! Thought this PJ Harvey track would be top 50!
That Lou Reed thing was hilarious!
After back to back Beastie Boys hours, we all know what must be under 200.
"is this the weather channel?" - Butthead
Oof, The Screaming Trees Nearly Lost You, Would by Alice in Chains at the beginning of the day, the Beastie Boys...it's been dusty around here today...
If you like Talk Talk, you should listen to Westerman, Bullion, & Orlando Weeks
Boo to Dolores about not having a library card. At least one rock star on the 500 has one. And has been in a library too, for sure. ❤️
It really is a gift Ali! The first track All Over Now is a personal favorite
is there a playlist posted as it's played. not showing up on my phone of laptop
You're twistin' my melon man!
Yes! Your attention please!
Paging Babs! #whigs
Reminder that The Cranberries 2019 post-humous record In the End was really freaking good and Inhailer played the crap out of it that year
Bamming my boys, again!
hard to imagine zombie without Andy Bernard these days
Do I even have to say it? I apparently have a lot of songs I like to sing along to as Goofy.
The inspiration: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czLYl4fM8yk
Possibly my favorite Pixies track!
Slight twinge of panic just now when hearing this song is Lap 220 "We're more than halfway through now! It's going to end, dammit!"
R.I.P. MCA
Another song that is very fun to sing like you're Goofy
R.E.M. at 5 songs, edging ahead of Bowie at 4.
Peeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeete. How many is this now for REM?
I think we're all missing the biggest takeaway from this broadcast: Sledge will do anything for tacos.
Blur paging Jilly, Blur paging Jilly!
Man, this PB&J brings me back. I used to have this SanDisk MP3 player (my first one!) that you could record FM radio on! I distinctly remember recording this song, as well as Dashboard by Modest Mouse
"Young Folks" is such a WOXY tune in my mind. Never hear it without thinking of the station.
omg. I don't think I've ever heard this arnie from green acres commercial. That is hilarious!
Just pushed the volume waaaaay up!!!
"The Killing Moon" makes me dance AND swoooooon. 🫠
I could listen to Harriet Wheeler sing the text in an ADOBE waiver.
The 1996 time capsule omitted one great historical fact... it was the year coach started at Miami and discovered 97X!
sledgehammer worth a YouTube for video
Woah I have never heard this edit
PAGING TRIXI, PAGING TRIXI!
Shivvy was not involved in this MR 500 Selection.
Is woxy merch still out ther? my car wants a woxy magnet
Every single day our concurrent listenership has exceeded the previous day! We reached a peak of 813 so far today (794 yesterday)
I was looking back...
Ric Tile! He taught a communications class I took at Miami back in 1999 or 2000.
Dinosaur Jr, Feel the Pain...the first song I ever played on Guitar Hero! 🤣
Jam Bam!
I first heard DJ shadow from the 2004 A-X extravaganza. Always reminds me of hazy Ohio summers
DOLPHIN SAFE!!! Some of these old promos that even I have never heard before are truly incredible.
For my birthday mate and fellow Pogues lover. Here's to you Buzz.
WHERE IS JEFF MANNIX/IPRAYFORSOUND right now? This is HIS tune.
Love Strangelove!!!
There are so many songs that we all associate with 97X/WOXY. PDA by Interpol is one of them for me.
Radiohead. Get in my earholes!!!
BAM FOR BLUR!! <3
live flaming lips hard to beat. bogarts, lollapalooza, waynesville
Excellent use of the xylophone in this one.
I still remember the first time I heard Arcade Fire...totally blew me away. Hearing this song takes me back to living in Orlando but still having that connection to home via woxy.com and the boards.

Hearing a Barb/Shiv back to back with Bjork in between is a DREAM <3
Ya got ta go for what ya know! #PE

And The Clash finally join the race!
PSA: Even at Yo La's slower pace, bobbing your head along with the music on a Zoom meeting, can be noticed by others. So cameras off.
Barb! So happy to hear your voice (my first time so far).
Remember when Morrissey was tolerable? Enh, never mind.

YES “Will we finally hear a Smiths track in the 200s?”
Aaron Borns, a class act all the way. He "graduated" from 97X and went on to a lengthy career at RCA Records in marketing. Now he's the VP of Marketing for Sporting Kansas City.
Random thought: 97x is a station featured in video games (GTA?)?
BRING ON THE DANCING HORSES!
FINALLY!
There's my boy EC!
Elvis!!!!!
Damn! I was one off for being the correct caller to the 97X lines. Congrats to the winner, though!

Just came here to BAM my boys!
First Whigs?
Oh YEAH! The boys are back in town!
This has been a great string of dance tunes. Happy it's my work from home day today, though my coworkers probably wouldn't care if they noticed me dancing.

Pretty Persuasion brings R.E.M. up to 4. Tied with Bowie now for most appearances.
Sinead with 3 appearances! Woohoo!
It's about time!
Who is tracking how many covers make it onto the countdown?
Don’t don’t don’t let’s start….
It was about time for Cracket!
JJ bringing some great stories of the early days!
The The! Happy dance
Black Metallic!
B A M ! ! Catherine Wheel - Black Metallic
That’s #2 for The Cure. Bowie is still in the lead with 4 appearances so far.
I have also been listening to this Soundgarden album on repeat recently. RIP.

Angel is getting turned up to 11.
Should have played the Jim O'Rourke cover of "Fast Car" -- we all 20 minutes to spare, right?
Flashbacks to the "Singles" soundtrack! #AIC
“In the first hour today - you’ll hear 2 songs that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100: one from the 80’s, one from the 2000’s.” 🤔
Ready to roll!
