Inhailer Radio Celebrate 5 Years of Fresh Airwaves with Party at Madison Live!

On June 3rd, 2022, Inhailer Radio will celebrate 5 years of being on the air. To commemorate our anniversary, we're throwing a concert at Madison Live in Covington, KY featuring listener favorites Moonbeau, Bershy, Freedom Nicole Moore, Knotts and DJ sets from Inhailer Radio DJs.

When beloved AAA radio station WNKU was sold by Northern Kentucky University there was a real fear by music fans and performers alike that the sale would create an insurmountable void. Cincinnati’s music scene had been loosely held together by alt weekly Citybeat, Cincymusic.com, Cincinnati Public Radio, WNKU and a few independent music promoters taking big risks to bring national talent to Cincinnati while simultaneously supporting homegrown talent.

As a local musician in the indie pop band Multimagic, I knew first hand the power of our strong music community and I didn't want to lose the momentum we had made as a city.

With the impending sale, I felt compelled to step up to do something.

After initial attempts to save WNKU in some shape or form, I was reintroduced to avid live music fan Taylor Fox during a Phantogram concert at Bogarts. I soon learned that Taylor had previous experience DJing overnight community radio. With our new formed friendship, we joined forces and pivoted to launch an online and app based station inspired by a local radio station I had discovered in Manchester, England.

On June 2nd, 2017 DJ Taylor Fox, aka “TayFo'' aired our first broadcast of Inhailer Radio online at www.inhailer.com.

The initial format was fairly loose but focused primarily on indie rock, alternative pop and local music, taking inspiration from nationally recognized stations such as KEXP, The Current and Columbus’s CD92.9. The station quickly added more volunteer DJ’s including listener favorite Clara Stryker (now Helsel) and expanded to iPhone and Android apps.

At the start of 2018, Nils Illokken joined Inhailer Radio as Music Director, after previously serving as music director at WOUB-FM in Athens, Oho. Nils brought a breadth of knowledge and introduced the station to music promoters throughout the country by reporting to the North American College & Community Radio Chart where he was featured as music director of the month.

In 2020 Inhailer Radio officially entered into partnership with Cincinnati Public Radio and can now be found on the FM dial at WGUC 90.9 HD 3.

With the announcement of our 5 year anniversary celebration, we look forward to continuing our mission to highlight Cincinnati’s rich music scene and this concert will reflect just that!
