Beat making wizard, Steven Ellison, returns to the Madison Theater September 5th in support of his newest Flying Lotus album, Flamagra. Across the 27 tracks of Flamagra Ellison explores a surreal new universe inspired in part by and featuring David Lynch. On Flamagra, Ellison is joined by an exciting list of collaborators both new and familiar. Filled with thick sludgy beats and crystalline jazz fusion, Flamagra presents an expansive universe that is sure to translate to a live setting in an exciting way that only Flying Lotus can deliver. Â
The typical Flying Lotus show promises familiar songs distorted into something new--each track intertwined with the next. In addition to the warped beats, Ellison often switches between running the controls and stepping out front to perform some songs under his rap heavy moniker Captain Murphy. Ellison will be bringing his deeply immersive 3D production along to accompany the cosmic jazz funk presented on Flamagra and any of his older material that we might get to hear.
Brainfeeder label-mate and frequent collaborator, Brandon Coleman, will support Flying Lotus on this tour. Presented on stage as Professor Boogie, Coleman is sure to open the night right. In addition to Coleman, the Madison Theater will be hosting even more Brainfeeder talent with Salami Rose, Joe Louis, and PBDY joining the fun. The line to get in was down the block during Flying Lotus’s 2017 visit to The Madison Theater so I would not miss this one!
