Low Cut Connie’s rough and rowdy rock and roll harkens back to the time of rat rods and street racing. The Philadelphia based band, led by front-man Adam Weiner and Shondra, his piano, come to the Southgate House Revival in the Sanctuary on Wednesday, July 18th at 8 pm.
Before forming Low Cut Connie, Weiner cut his teeth playing piano in dive bars, honky tonks, and warehouse shows across North America and Europe. Low Cut Connie’s members are Adam Weiner, James Everhart, Will Donnelley, Larry Scotton, Lucas Rinz, and Saundra Williams.
In 2011, the band’s debut album, Get Out the Lotion, received positive reviews from critics, being described as “what indie rock might sound like were it invented in Alabama in the late Fifties” by Rolling Stone. In 2012, their sophomore album, Call me Sylvia, was released. Barack Obama selected the album’s song “Boozophilia” as one of the songs on his 2015 summer playlist. Their third album, Hi Honey, was received to widespread acclaim, ranking #2 album of the year by NPR critic Jim DeRogatis. The newest album, Dirty Pictures, is a project released in two parts. The first part was in 2017, the second part was released May 18, 2018.
Low Cut Connie gives the audience an exciting show with high energy the whole time throughout. With a classic, rowdy rock and roll with Jerry Lee Lewis-esque piano riffs, they deliver stripped-down, driving rock rhythms that send you back to rock and roll’s beginning.
