Maps & Atlases: Navigate Your Way to Fountain Square for an Amazing Night

Looking to hear some catchy live music on the night of June 30th? If so, you should head on down to Fountain Square to catch some great live indie rock from local acts Daniel in Stereo, Current Events, as well as and Maps & Atlases.

Opening up the event is local singer/songwriter Daniel in Stereo. Formed by African native Daniel Chimusoro, Daniel in Stereo blends elements of jazz, electronic, and soothing guitar lines to create a high energy but at the same time soothing sound. Currently, with a six-song EP out titled A Beautiful Mess or a Beautiful Wreck, Daniel in Stereo has had many accomplishments as an artist including playing Bunbury three times, as well as having played shows with artists like SmashMouth, A Silent Film, Jacob Whiteside, and a previous show with Maps & Atlases as well. To add to that, he was also nominated in Citybeat’s 2016 Cincinnati Entertainment Awards in the Alternative/Indie category.

While Chimusoro writes and records his music all by himself, when seeing him live you can expect to see another musician on stage with him playing the drums behind him since Daniel loves the energy that comes from playing as a duo. Expect to see a show that is high energy, and will get you on your feet. I would say his music sounds very similar to bands like Hippo Campus, Coin, and Harbour.

Playing after Daniel in Stereo is another local act named Current Events. Formed in 2015 by members Jacob Aufdenkamp (guitar/vocals), Mike Brodbeck (bass), Kevin Bole (guitar/vocals), and Kyle Wavra (drums), the band combines elements of emo, pop-punk, and hardcore to create a unique sound that is truly their own. Currently with three EP’s and a six-song album titled MMXVII the band has put out a lot of material for such a young band. The band has also received a few accolades in the short time they have been around including playing Bunbury and the Midpoint Music Festival all without having a label backing them and without straying from their DIY roots. They have a heavy American Football influence with a dash of pop punk elements.

Headlining the show is the band Maps & Atlases. Founded in Chicago in 2004 by members Shiraz Dada (bass), Dave Davison (guitar), and Chris Hainley (drums), the band has released a lot of material over the years. Currently with four albums, out with their most recent one that came out this year titled Lightness Is Nothing New, the band has accomplished a lot over the past 14 years they have been a band. They have toured with other well known nationally touring bands including Ra Ra Riot, Foals, Minus The Bear, Portugal. The Man, and Good Old War just to name a few. Also, they have been written about in a number of nationally recognized music sites including Pitchfork, Noisey, and Consequence of Sound.

While their stage presence is relatively mellow, they balance it with their unique sound that will draw your attention to the stage even with their laid-back stage presence. Combining elements of indie, folk, alternative, math rock, and experimental, their sound is one of the more unique and distinctive sounds in the music scene. The band's sound is a combination of bands like Ra Ra Riot and Atlas Genius mixed with bands like Lord Huron and Fleet Foxes.

The night of June 30th at Fountain Square is going to be a night of some unique and infectious catchy music. If you show up be sure to put on your dancing shoes because there’s sure going to be a lot of dancing going on.
