10. "Only If You Say So" - Low Hum
Low Hum's "Only If You Say So" is spot #10 this week. First appearing as a single in February, it is the 6th track off of his new album, Terra Incognita, that was released in May. Other popular favorites from the album include "Meet Me In The Sky" and "Hints". While all 3 songs sound different, they all adopt a strong beat, powerful vocals and impactful lyrics.
While Low Hum (Collin Desha) does not have any upcoming shows announced, make sure to keep up with all the latest updates by following his socials.
9. "LET THE VIRGIN DRIVE" - SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE
SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE impresses us with their latest single "LET THE VIRGIN DRIVE" from June 12. This is the latest release after their EP "i'm so lucky" came out in September 2023.
The band is scheduled to release their newest album, YOU'LL HAVE TO LOSE SOMETHING, on August 23. SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE will be on tour this fall, stopping in cities such as: Detroit, MI; Chicago, IL; Atlanta, GA; Asheville, NC; and more!
8. "She Loves Me" - Dora Jar
Dora Jar graces us with new music after releasing "She Loves Me" on May 10, alongside partnering track "Puppet", which originally came out in November. She released her newest single "Timelapse" on June 28. "Puppet" is the most upbeat and danceable of her recent releases, while "She Loves Me" and "Timelapse" are more laid back and flowy.
While a new album has not been officially announced yet, we have an idea that one is in the works after Dora Jar's June 28 Instagram post stated: "Also I would like to tell u the acronym for the album is 'NWTRWYAOF',, any guesses?" We also welcome you to share your guesses in the comments below.
Dora Jar (Dora Jarkowski) has one upcoming show listed: Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 1.
7. "Сон / Son" - Molchat Doma
Molchat Doma grabs spot #7 with their first release of the year. "Сон / Son" is the first single from their upcoming album, Belaya Polosa, scheduled to release September 6. This is huge news since their last album, Monument, came out nearly 4 years ago.
Molchat Doma originally formed in Minsk, Belarus in 2017. You may know them a bit extra from their songs "Судно (Борис Рыжий)" and "тоска" that rose to fame on Tiktok back in 2020. It takes us back to the revitalized trends of alt aesthetics and urbex exploring videos.
Molchat Doma starts their UK/European tour in October, making stops in cities such as London, Paris, Helsinki, Vienna and more.
6. "Every Time The Sun Comes Up (Alternate Version)" - Sharon Van Etten
Sharon Van Etten's melancholy track makes it to the A List this week. On May 28, she released a single including a live version from the Sydney Opera House, the alternate version (our pick this week) and the decade-old original that has over 82 million streams on Spotify. The difference between the original and the alternate version is slight - the most recent is a bit more upbeat and the ending of "here she is" and giggling were left out.
Sharon Van Etten has only one upcoming show listed: Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on September 28 with Mitski.
5. "Wish Me Away" - GIFT
GIFT grabs spot #5 with their catchy, first release of the year from April 10, "Wish Me Away". They have since released two more singles, "Going In Circles" and "Later", from their upcoming album, Illuminator, which comes out on August 23. All tracks are light sounding and make for easy listening.
The Brooklyn, NY-based band has quite a few upcoming shows, playing in Somerville, MA at the end of July, various East Coast dates in September, and throughout Europe in October and November.
4. "Cognitive Dissident" - The The
The The reels us in with their mysterious new track that released on May 17. This track is exceptionally important, giving a sneak peek into their latest album of new songs in a quarter of a century. Ensoulment is scheduled to release on September 6. The The goes into production details and the track listings here, while pre-ordering a physical copy of their new album is already available and can be found here.
The The will be on the Ensoulment Tour later this year, starting out strong with 3 straight sold out shows in England. They will be making their way to the U.S. in October, playing their first show in Atlanta on the 11th at Tabernacle. They will also be stopping in Detroit on October 23 and Chicago on October 25. Various other dates can be found here.
3. "Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden" - Valley
Valley makes an appearance this week after releasing "Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden" on June 7, an optimistic track from their upcoming album. This comes after the upbeat, first single, "When You Know Someone", dropped about a month earlier on May 10. Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden is scheduled to be released on August 30.
Valley has many upcoming shows, including one in their city of Toronto on August 22 with The Beaches and Dizzy. They make their way to the U.S. at the end of September, playing shows in Philidelphia, Asheville, Atlanta and more!
2. "U Should Not Be Doing That" - Amyl and the Sniffers
Amyl and The Sniffers has us rocking out with "U Should Not Be Doing That", their newest music since 2021. The single, released on May 21, is paired with partnering track, "Facts".
Their music video features an appearance from Steven Ogg. You may be wondering why he looks vaguely familiar. If you're a video game fan, you already know - he's the voice and motion picture actor of Trevor Phillips from GTA V (2013). While it is unclear how Ogg and the band know each other, he tells Rage in a recent article that he is, “inspired by and grateful to be involved with the beautiful fire energy of Amy and the beautiful band”.
Amyl and The Sniffers are scheduled to play in Louisville on July 31 at Mercury Ballroom and Indianapolis on August 1 at HI-FI. While no album has been announced yet, be sure to follow their socials to keep up to date with the latest info.
1. "I'm A Teenage Edgelord" - Cheekface
Showing up at #1 on the A List is Cheekface's catchy and fun "I'm a Teenage Edgelord", released on May 31. Their single, Sort Of (b-sides), includes two other partnering tracks: "Gravity" and "PPL". All 3 songs have their own sound but the iconic vocals are no stranger.
Their latest album, It's Sorted, was released on January 22 and the band finished their spring tour at the end of May. We cannot wait to see what's up next for the band after seeing everything they have already been up to this year.
Intriguingly, they have a discord group called "cheekface bagel store" where you can keep up with the latest Cheekface updates.
Same time next week? Thanks for joining us for this week's A List!
